Paper of the Month April 2019

This month:

[177Lu]-PSMA-617 radionuclide treatment in patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (LuPSMA trial): a single-centre, single-arm, phase 2 study

177Lu-PSMA-617 therapy is being implemented in clinical routine for treatment of progressive metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) in several countries. Simultaneously, Endocyte is running its large VISION-trail, which is an international, prospective, open Label, multicenter, randomized phase 3 study of 177Lu-PSMA-617 in the treatment of patients with progressive PSMA-positive (mCRPC).

Within this scope, the first phase 2 study on 177Lu-PSMA-617 therapy in patients with progressive mCRPC by Hofman et al., published in Lancet Oncology in Q4 2018, is of interest since it assesses toxicity, efficacy and effects on quality of life of these patients and provides a stepping stone for the ongoing VISION-trial and further implementation of the treatment in clinical routine.
