Update on thyroid and parathyroid

In this seminar that will be divided in two parts, we would like to show you the latest techniques and knowledge on thyroid and parathyroid.

First, our guest speaker Prof Luca Giovanella, will give an update on nuclear imaging for the characterization of thyroid nodules. Being vice president of the Thyroid committee of the EANM, a member of the Thyroid working group as well as director of the competence center for diagnosis and therapy for thyroid disease, he is considered an expert among experts and we look forward to his zoom presentation.

Next, we will have the honor to hear about a new technique of treatment for non cancerous thyroid nodules. Bénédicte Heynen was the first physician in Belgium to perform an ablation using interventional radiology.

The second part of the seminar will focus on parathyroid imaging that is on the verge of changing radically. With the upcoming of choline based imaging, our future as a community in this disease is bright. We are very pleased to be guided by Amelientje Bracke, who is an expert on the matter and did her PhD in this field. She will compare our classic imaging techniques to choline based PET-CT. Last, but certainly not least, we are honored to have Antoine Buemi, endocrine surgeon, teaching us about the impact of imaging on his daily work. In doing so, we hope to clarify and underline the importance of imaging for the practitioner.
